Corrections & accountability

When we get something wrong in public, we fix it in public. Every correction to a published fact appears here with its date, what it said before, what it says now, and why it changed, so this record can be trusted the way an outlet's record is trusted.

Every correction is timely, explicit, complete and transparent. It is made when the error is found. It says what was wrong. It changes everything the error touched, and it shows the original wording.

This site is now public. This page records material corrections to published facts and interpretations; mechanical fixes remain handled separately under the rule below.

A factual review of Current Status corrected several statements that went further than their sources supported. The earlier 160,000+ campaign total was removed because the component populations overlap and the overlap has not been established; C003 is retained as PROJECT ANALYSIS only to document that corrected historical arithmetic and must not be used as an unduplicated total. The 15,000+ figure is attributed to the Senate hearing statement; the ~90,000 figure is dated to its April 2026 report; the Dec. 12, 2024 warning is no longer presented as documented fact while its source is pending; the VA/FHA comparison no longer implies causation; the ~31,500 active-foreclosure figure remains a VFC-derived estimate with its calculation shown; and the 58,000+ figure is cited to the organizations that reported it rather than described as VFC-derived subtraction. On September 22, the claims register and remaining public 160,000+ uses were reconciled with this correction.

Working notes written while the site was being built are not corrections and are not kept on this page. They are held in the project archive.

Mechanical fixes are handled differently. Spelling, punctuation, a broken link, a typo that changes nothing about a claim: fixed without a note. Anything that changes what a reader would take away, a figure, a date, a name, a characterisation of what someone said or did, gets a dated entry here, every time.

We correct errors we find ourselves, not only the ones reported to us. Figures carry a last-verified date and are re-checked; a check that finds an error makes a correction on the same terms. This record is kept as one list so that the pattern of errors, not only each one, is visible.

Retraction is a last resort. Removing part of the record destroys the ability to check what was said and when, which is the opposite of what this site is for. Material is removed only in three circumstances: removal is legally required; the flaws are serious enough that no correction repairs them; or the verification process was not followed before publication. If anything is retracted, this page will say what it was, when it went, and why. The absence will not be silent.
