Two ways in, and they are not the same door

If you are the family this is happening to, start on the left. Everyone else, start on the right. Both reach the same person; the difference is what happens next and how fast.
If this is happening to you
Help first. Being counted is separate and always optional.
If you are in crisis, that comes before anything on this site. The Veterans Crisis Line is 988, then press 1. Text 838255. It is staffed around the clock, you do not need to be enrolled in VA care, and you do not have to be in danger right now to call. Losing a home is one of the hardest things that can happen to a family, and reaching out is not an overreaction.
If you have a sale date or an eviction notice, go straight to First 72 hours. It is a printable checklist and it is the fastest thing on this site.
For everything else about your own case, start at Get Help. Vetted, free, national numbers grouped by where you are in the process, plus what to do before you sign anything. That page will do more for you today than writing to us will.
When you are ready, and only if you want to, you can be counted. Three choices, and the default is that your household is a number on a map and nothing else. No name, no story, no contact from anyone, ever. You can change your mind at any time, in any way, without explaining.
DOCUMENTED FACT This project is not a law firm and cannot take your case or give you legal advice. What it can do is point you at the people who handle exactly this, and add your household to a count that congressional offices and reporters are asking for.
To write to us about your own situation, email veteransforeclosurecrisis@gmail.com. Tell us your state and roughly where you are in the process. Do not send case documents in a first email. How to share your story safely explains what to leave out and why.
If you are here to help or to check
Say which of these you are and it routes itself.
You are a reporter. The press desk is one screen: documents, response expectations, the source bundle, and interview ground rules. Email with Press in the subject line.
You work for a Member or a committee. Email with Congressional in the subject. Say which office and what you need, and you will get the sourced version rather than the public summary. The one-pager is the fastest briefing.
You are an attorney, or you work at a legal aid or consumer organisation. The gap this project cannot close by itself is representation, specifically RESPA and mortgage-servicing litigation. Email with Legal in the subject, whether you can take a case or only point at someone who can.
You want to volunteer. Research, writing, calls to offices, spreadsheet work, mutual aid. Email with Volunteer in the subject and say roughly how much time you have on a bad week, not a good one. That is the number that makes a plan work.
You found something wrong on this site. That is the most useful message on this page. Email with Correction in the subject, name the page and what is inaccurate, and it is fixed on the correction record with a date. The same standard applies whoever you are.
You want a source, a dataset, or a document. Most are already public: the registers are downloadable and every claim carries its source number. If what you need is not there, ask with Source request in the subject.
What happens to what you send
Who reads it, how long it takes, what is never published.
DOCUMENTED FACT One inbox, read by one person. This project has no staff, so a reply can take a few days. A family with a sale date or an eviction notice is answered first, and if that is you, say so in the subject line.
Nothing about a household is published without that household saying yes to that specific thing. The public lane carries systemic evidence, public records, and de-identified examples by state and situation. The private lane carries individual case evidence, court filings, deadlines, and any file, case or agency number, and none of it is ever published. How this record is kept sets out both lanes in full.
If you send documents, they are stored privately and used only for what you agreed to. If you later want them deleted, say so and they are deleted.
