Accessibility statement
Many of the families this record is for are disabled veterans, caregivers, and older adults reading on a phone in a hard moment. We build this site so the information reaches them, not just so it exists.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a working standard. Accessibility is treated as part of getting the facts to people, and is reviewed whenever the site changes, not as a one-time checkbox.
This is an unfunded, family-run oversight project. We may not always meet every criterion perfectly, but we will fix accessibility barriers the same way we fix factual errors: in public, on request, and on the record.
How this site is made accessible
What we build in
Readable type & contrast
Body text never drops below a legible size, ink-on-paper contrast is kept high, and color is never the only way a fact is signaled, content labels are spelled out in words as well. The KEY FINDING block, the one reading-priority signal on the site, is marked by a label spelled out in words, a change of background, and a bar down its left edge, so it does not depend on seeing the colour crimson. Crimson on white measures 5.65:1 and crimson on paper 4.99:1, both above the 4.5:1 AA minimum for body text, and the bar itself clears the 3:1 minimum for non-text contrast. Red-green colour vision deficiency, which affects roughly one man in twelve, changes the hue but not the lightness, so the bar stays a dark bar.
Keyboard & structure
Pages use real headings, lists, and links in reading order so they can be navigated by keyboard and understood by a screen reader without a mouse.
Responsive & zoom-friendly
Layouts reflow on small screens and hold together when text is enlarged, so the site works on an old phone and at high zoom.
Plain language & a printable record
Key pages are written to be scanned, and every page prints to a clean document for anyone who needs it on paper or wants to share it offline.
Known limits
Some documents linked from this site are hosted by third parties (courts, agencies, news outlets) whose accessibility we do not control. Where a key source is hard to access, we describe its contents in plain text on the page. If a linked document is a barrier for you, tell us and we will provide the information another way.
